Kai Canning’s Camping Challenge
The motion
That the Parliament commends 10-year-old Orcadian Kai Canning on sleeping in a tent for 57 days in memory of his grandmother; understands that Kai decided to camp out to raise money for AMMF, a charity that helps raise awareness of bile duct cancer, or cholangiocarcinoma, after his grandmother, Terry, died from the rare disease earlier in 2023; further understands that Kai set the challenge of 57 days to reflect his grandmother’s age at the time of her passing, and that he has successfully raised over £2,000 as a result of his efforts; notes that Kai at one stage had to contend with a waterlogged tent, as well as strong winds, but refused to give up on his goal; recognises that friends and family supported him by taking turns sleeping in the tent across the 57 days; notes his mother’s comments that “the whole family and even friends are just so proud of what he's gone and done and how much he's gone and raised for his gran's charity”; congratulates Kai on his impressive efforts, and offers every best wish to him and his family.
