Oban Man Sets Double World Rowing Record

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Huw Carden on becoming the oldest person to row the Mid Pacific Ocean, at the age of 63; notes that Huw is a former Rockfield Primary and Oban High School pupil, who set off from Monterey on 12 June 2023, and arrived on 2 August in Hanalei; recognises that Huw and his four teammates also became the first crew of five to complete the crossing from California to Hawaii, with only 82 people in 33 boats having previously made this crossing; commends their time of 51 days, five hours and 44 minutes, and wishes Huw the best of luck in a possible attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean in the future.
