26th Stirling (Alloa) Boys' Brigade Special Celebration Event
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the 26th Stirling (Alloa) Boys' Brigade on the success of the company’s Special Celebration Event, which was held on 18 August 2023; acknowledges that this event took place in celebration of the forthcoming anniversaries, which include the 140th year since the formation of The Boys’ Brigade, and the 70th year since the formation of the company as well as marking its move from Moncrieff UF Church to Ludgate Church and, in particular, the retiral from frontline duties of both John and Eileen Forrest; understands that John has been part of the company since joining as a boy in 1955, and served as an officer since 1961 and then as captain since 1966; further understands that Eileen started out as a Brownie leader during the 1960s and 1970s, before marrying John and working in the background to support John in his work with The Boys’ Brigade; believes that she too then joined the movement and took over as Officer in Charge of the Anchor Boys and Junior Sections, a role that she held for more than 37 years; acknowledges that, between them, they have more than 100 years of service to the youth in Alloa, both through their professional careers as teachers and through their voluntary service in youth organisations, and commends John and Eileen on their wonderful, selfless work, and further commends 26th Stirling (Alloa) Boys' Brigade, in addition to the entire Boys’ Brigade organisation, on what it sees as its sterling work for the benefit of younger generations.
