Lodged by Rachael Hamilton (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party) Standard Motion 36 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Commander Dave Farries from Hawick, who is retiring at the age of 70, after 55 years in the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service; notes that Commander Farries joined the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service in 1968 as a junior firefighter and has only just retired from the force in 2023, making him, it understands, Scotland’s longest-serving firefighter; further notes what it sees as the dedication that Commander Farries has given, not only to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, but to the people of Scotland, putting fires out across the country, including in the capital, during his lifetime; understands that, during his career, Commander Farries spent time as a frontline firefighter, instructor, and investigator, and was ultimately awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal in 2014 for his services to the public; notes Commander Farries' dedication to the Lothian and Borders, and British Fire Service rugby teams, which, it understands, he helped to run in his spare time, and wishes Commander Farries well in his retirement.
