Air Ambulance Week 2023

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that Air Ambulance Week 2023 is taking place from 4 to 10 September 2023; notes that the week is organised by Air Ambulances UK, which is the national charity supporting the work of the UK's air ambulance charities; understands that the week is dedicated to raising awareness of the vital life-saving role of air ambulance charities in the UK, such as Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA), which works in partnership with the Scottish Ambulance Service air ambulance operation, supplementing the operation with two helicopters, crew and rapid response vehicles based in Perth and Aberdeen; recognises that air ambulance services form an important part of frontline emergency services, ensuring that the most seriously ill or injured receive specialist attention as quickly as possible and are airlifted to hospital in the fastest possible time; understands that SCAA can be airborne within five minutes of receiving an emergency call and can reach 90% of Scotland’s population within 25 minutes; believes that the fast response of air ambulances and their ability to reach Scotland’s most remote and rural areas saves vital time and increases a patient’s chance of survival and full recovery; understands that air ambulance charities are largely funded by charitable donations and fundraising; commends the work of air ambulances across the country, and wishes Air Ambulances UK well with raising awareness and funds to enable these life-saving services to continue.
