First Brick Laid for Scotland’s First British Indian Army War Memorial at Kelvingrove Museum

The motion

That the Parliament commends the efforts of Colourful Heritage on marking what it sees as a historic milestone, by laying the first brick on the British Indian Army (BIA) War Memorial that has been granted permission to be erected on the grounds of Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum in Glasgow; notes that the BIA sent 1.5 million servicemen to fight in the First World War and 2.5 million servicemen to fight in the Second World War, who belonged to Hindu, Muslim and Sikh faiths, as well as other represented faiths and those of no faith; further notes that these servicemen were mainly from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh; understands that by creating the first and only memorial in Scotland to BIA servicemen who fought and perished in the two world wars, the monument will play a key role in remembering those individuals; believes that it will assist in the education of a shared history for generations to come, and wishes everyone on the project every success for its completion.
