Scottish Borders Walk It Programme

Lodged by Rachael Hamilton (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party) Standard Motion 33 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends the Paths to Health Walk It programme in the Scottish Borders, which, it understands, has increased its attendance by 45% for its group walks through the Scottish Borders in 2023, and that 10,913 people have attended walks; understands that, with funding from the Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders, Walk It aims to reduce health inequalities and improve Scotland’s health; further understands that 32 of the 43 regular walking groups are dementia-friendly, which is the highest proportion in Scotland; understands that this saw a 60% increase in walks, meaning that 1,232 mainstream Walk It walks were delivered, and pays tribute to the 78 new volunteer walk leaders, who, it believes, have been essential to the success of the programme.
