The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that a new community cinema for Plean is set to open its doors in September 2023; understands that a year-long partnership between Macrobert Arts Centre, Stirling Council and local residents will see the new cinema, which is to be named Macrobert Moviehouse, open right in the heart of Plean in East Stirlingshire; acknowledges that the cinema, within the Balfour Community Centre in the village’s Balfour Crescent, will show the very latest film releases on the doorstep of the local community; considers that the project has been made possible through an award from Screen Scotland’s Cinema Recovery Fund and Macrobert Arts Centre’s own investment, whilst Stirling Council is also supporting the venture in kind by allowing the cinema to operate in the Balfour Community Centre; notes that the cinema programme will share content with that of Macrobert Arts Centre’s own University of Stirling-based cinema, as well as regular film selections from the local programming groups that were created as part of the project; understands that there is a "soft opening" planned from 28 September for staff, friends and members of the community who have helped realise the project, with future programmes being screened on Thursday and Friday evenings, as well as all day on Saturdays and Sundays; believes that the cinema would also not have been possible without the generous support of the community in Plean and the village’s community trust, known as Plean’s Voice, which welcomed and shaped the idea that the Macrobert Centre proposed with what it believes to be warmth and enthusiasm; commends everyone involved on what it sees as this excellent community venture, and wishes the Macrobert Moviehouse in Plean the very best of success.
