The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement of £123 million of funding for the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute, formerly known as the Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute, based at the University of Glasgow; notes that Cancer Research UK is to provide the funding as part of a seven-year commitment to the Institute, which is home to world-leading cancer scientists who are developing research for the benefit of people with cancer in Glasgow and across Scotland; recognises the decades-long legacy of the Beatson in Glasgow, and praises the global reputation for excellent science and innovation in the west of Scotland; understands that this is the largest investment by Cancer Research UK in Scotland to date, and notes what it sees as the significance of this funding for patients across Glasgow and the west of Scotland, which, it believes, have some of the highest cancer incidence rates in the UK; congratulates the University of Glasgow, Cancer Research UK and all partners of the Institute on their success so far, and wishes them well as they continue to develop ground-breaking research into the future.
