Baby Loss Awareness Week 2023
The motion
That the Parliament acknowledges 2023 as the 21st year of Baby Loss Awareness Week in the UK; understands that it is taking place from 9 to 15 October in 2023; further understands that this annual campaign encourages anyone who has experienced baby loss to come together and remember all the precious lives taken too soon; understands that the week aims to help raise awareness of the impact of pregnancy and baby loss, as well as to highlight the importance of bereavement support and the vital work needed to improve outcomes in pregnancy and to save babies’ lives; considers that the week of commemoration culminates with a global Wave of Light on 15 October 2023, when candles are lit across the world as part of International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day; believes that this entire event has grown into a collaboration between more than 60 charities across the UK including SANDS, Baby Loss Retreat, SiMBA, Our Missing Peace, Held in our Hearts, and many others across Scotland; notes that it aims to raise awareness of the key issues affecting those who have experienced pregnancy or baby loss in the UK, and understands that now, in its 21st year, Baby Loss Awareness Week calls for tangible improvements in research, care and policy around bereavement support, and highlights bereavement support and services available for anyone affected by the death of a baby at any stage.
