Ayr’s The Coo Shed - Joanne Kerr Named Runner-up in the Inspirational Young Persons Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Ayr’s Joanne Kerr on being awarded runner-up in the National Farmers Union Mutual (NFU Mutual) Inspirational Young Persons Award 2023, with Scotland Food and Drink; understands that the award is in its fifth year and aims to highlight the enormous contribution that young people make to Scotland’s food and drink businesses, as well as the importance of the sector to the wider economy; notes that the award is open to students, employees, partners or owners of businesses in Scotland, who are aged between 16 and 26, working within the food and drink industry; understands that Joanne is the café manager at her family’s farm-themed coffee shop, The Coo Shed, based on their dairy farm; further understands that The Coo Shed opened in 2017, in addition to the family's already successful plant nursery, Corton Plants; acknowledges that Joanne was praised for her fantastic work ethic and friendly "can-do" attitude; believes that Joanne has been working with the family business since school, and commends her continued dedication and commitment to Scottish farming.
