The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Boys’ Brigade on celebrating its 140th anniversary; notes that the Boys’ Brigade was founded in Glasgow on 4 October 1883 by Thurso-born businessman, Sir William Alexander Smith, as an organisation to provide opportunities for children and young people to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment, which is rooted in the Christian faith; understands that Sir William first introduced camping into the programme in 1886, holding its inaugural camp at Tighnabruiach in Argyll and Bute, and that this remains a key part of the programme to this day; recognises that there are now over 750 Boys’ Brigade Companies across the United Kingdom and Ireland, and that the organisation is active in over 50 countries worldwide, and wishes everyone involved in the Boys’ Brigade well in its anniversary year and hopes that it will continue to go from strength to strength for the next 140 years.
