Clackmannanshire's Lauren Matthews Awarded Sportscotland Young Volunteer of the Year 2023

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Lauren Matthews, from Clackmannanshire, was awarded Young Volunteer of the Year at sportscotland's Coaching, Officiating, and Volunteering (COV) Awards 2023; considers that the COV Awards aim to celebrate those who enhance the lives of others through sport, as well as recognise the commitment of those who apply their own time to make sport more accessible; notes that Lauren is the youngest chairperson of a netball local association in Scotland and that she has contributed many volunteer hours to grow the sport, with part of her work being to increase participation; understands that she launched the first ever local association netball social league, offering men and women the opportunity to play in regular competitive netball; acknowledges that, in addition to doing so much for the sport, Lauren has also been studying for a master’s degree in mental health nursing, and commends Lauren on her award, as well as for her selfless work, for the good of the sport and for the community.
