Ayrshire Public Bodies Equally Safe at Work

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that both East Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire and Arran have been accredited under the Equally Safe at Work programme; understands that the Equally Safe at Work programme is developed by Close the Gap Scotland, an expert policy advocacy organisation working on women’s participation in the labour market; further understands that the programme seeks to support employers to understand how gender inequality and men’s violence affect women in the workforce, and to provide a framework to drive change; notes that NHS Ayrshire and Arran is developing a pull-up banner to display information on violence against women, and signpost patients and staff to support services, as well as distributing a video from the chief executive, which highlights the importance of addressing gender inequality in the workplace; further notes that East Ayrshire Council is developing an awareness-raising campaign by placing large posters on bin lorries to share information on domestic abuse and sexual harassment, and to signpost those affected to support services; understands that it is also developing an initiative to increase the representation of young men and young women in non-traditional modern apprenticeships, and is including positive equality statements in all job advertisements to encourage applicants from underrepresented areas; commends East Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire and Arran on their hard-earned accreditation, and wishes them well as they develop their new initiatives.
