Dedication and Bravery of Scotland’s Police Officers Celebrated at Scottish Police Federation Awards

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Scottish Police Federation and all nominees and winners at its annual awards ceremony, which took place in Edinburgh on 23 November 2023; understands that the awards recognise officers’ acts of bravery and commitment to serving their communities and supporting their colleagues; congratulates PC Paul Phillips, who is based in Inverness and who received the Individual Bravery award after tackling an armed man on a busy road; understands that PC Phillips was off-duty and with his young family at the time; congratulates Community Commitment award winner, PC Laura Evans, who is based in Dunoon and supports elderly residents, and who has trained more than 60 officers to provide support to those living with illness in remote communities; congratulates PS Christopher Taggart, a Glasgow-based police negotiator, who was given the Unsung Hero award for his work as a specialist negotiator during which time he has saved countless lives; further congratulates Team Bravery winners, PCs Kirsty McGlynn and Kevin Reynolds, on their bravery while on duty in Glasgow; congratulates PC Christopher Pemberton, from Edinburgh, who was named Cops’ Cop of the Year for motivating and supporting colleagues during his 21 years of service; further congratulates Chair’s Award winners, Stuart Cowan, who is national chair of the British Transport Police Federation, and Gary Thwaite, of the Civil Nuclear Police Federation, who raised £16,000 for the charity, PTSD999, by walking from Cumbria to London; thanks all Police Scotland officers and staff for what it sees as their continued hard work and dedication to keep people safe, and notes that the awards are held annually to celebrate the best in Scottish policing.
