Visit Scotland Thistle Award Won by Rediscovering the Antonine Wall Project

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Rediscovering the Antonine Wall Project, by West Dunbartonshire Council, on winning the Celebrating Thriving Communities Thistle Award by Visit Scotland; notes that the award underscores a commitment to responsible tourism, aligned to the ambitions of the national tourism strategy, Scotland Outlook 2030, understands that the project was led by West Dunbartonshire in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland and the five local authorities that the wall passes through; appreciates that funding was awarded from the Heritage Lottery Fund Scotland and LEADER funding; believes that the partners delivered an extensive and varied capital works programme, established an education and community engagement programme and created Roman-inspired play parks, distance stones and murals; understands that a touring exhibition was also put in place to enhance the visitor experience, while contributing to placemaking for local communities living alongside the wall; recognises that the Antonine Wall is an integral part of the history of the area, and wishes the partners and project every success for the future.
