Four Eastwood Churches Supported by UK Government Grant Scheme

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the award of funding for four churches in the Eastwood constituency through the UK Government's Listed Places of Worship (LPW) Grant Scheme; recognises that Netherlee and Stamperland Parish Church has been awarded funds of £194,759, and that the finance made available to the church is one of the biggest grants provided to places of worship in the UK through the latest phase of the initiative; understands that the funding allocated to Netherlee and Stamperland Parish Church is key for the future of the place of worship, with the money to be used for refurbishment of the roof and taking forward repairs to masonry, gutters, downpipes, lead work and drains; notes that the UK Government's LPW Grant Scheme has also resulted in the award of financial support for Orchardhill Parish Church, Giffnock South Parish Church and Greenbank Parish Church in Clarkston; understands that the grants provided to the churches in the Eastwood constituency are part of a £42 million financial package, with 4,900 places of worship across the UK receiving funding from the scheme in the previous year; recognises that the aim of the LPW Grant Scheme is to assist with the safeguarding of religious buildings representing all faiths and denominations, and understands that, since 2010, the initiative has provided a total of £346 million to support places of worship throughout the UK, including churches, synagogues, mosques and temples.
