Wallace Tower, Aberdeen

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement that the Wallace Tower in Aberdeen will receive £296,969 from the UK Government Community Ownership Fund; notes that the Wallace Tower, also known as Benholm’s Lodge, was originally constructed in the 1600s by Robert Keith of Benholm, whose brother George Keith, 5th Earl Marischal, founded Aberdeen's Marischal College; considers that the Wallace Tower is a fine and rare example of a Z-shaped fortified tower house; understands that, in the 1960s, it was moved from its city centre location, stone by stone, to Seaton Park, where it currently sits on the bank of the River Don; further understands that the building then sat unused for many years; welcomes the recent work by the Tillydrone Community Development Trust to bring the building back into use as a community space, café and gardens, and wishes the project all the best as it progresses.
