The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Bearsden-resident, Leanne Maiden, on conquering “the world’s toughest row” across the Atlantic Ocean solo; understands that, Leanne, who is originally from Johannesburg, spent 66 days and five hours at sea during her 3,000 mile voyage from La Gomera to Antigua; further understands that, so far, Leanne has raised more than £20,000 in donations for three charities, including The Polar Academy UK, the Women’s Fund for Scotland and the Mabel Foundation; commends what it sees as an immense display of perseverance, strength and endurance as Leanne reportedly battled 20ft waves and brutal temperatures, rowing for up to 14 hours each day; understands that Leanne took on the challenge thanks to sponsorship by premium Scotch whisky brand, Wolfcraig Distillers; hopes that Leanne’s achievement will inspire others to take up their own sporting challenges, and wishes her the very best in her future endeavours.
