Scottish Independent Broadband Provider, GoFibre, Launches £50,000 Charity Fund in Aberdeenshire and Angus

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates independent Scottish broadband provider, GoFibre, as it announces the launch of its GoFurther Fund in Aberdeenshire and Angus for the first time; understands that local charities and organisations in the area are now able to apply for a share of GoFibre’s £50,000 fund, which launched in summer 2023 to support vital projects and groups in their efforts to transform local lives within the regions where GoFibre continues to build its network; notes that around 20,000 residents and businesses across towns in Aberdeenshire and Angus are in the process of being able to access GoFibre’s full fibre broadband, with the network now live in the areas of Stonehaven, Newtonhill, Portlethen, Laurencekirk, Montrose and Kirriemuir, and with construction underway in Forfar; recognises that the GoFurther Fund provides grants up to the value of £3,000 to those who meet the relevant criteria, including supporting the creation of work experience opportunities, developing skills and the local economy, promoting good health and wellbeing, or actively tackling climate change and contributing to net zero targets in their local areas; notes that the GoFurther Fund is part of GoFibre’s stated ongoing commitment to tackle the digital divide across Scotland, and wishes good luck to all those who apply for the fund.
