Easterhouse Restaurant Wee Betty's Combatting Loneliness

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Wee Betty's, which is a family-owned restaurant in Easterhouse's shopping centre, on hosting a Chatter and Natter table; notes that the table creates a space for people to talk, whether it is for five minutes while you drink a brew, or an hour of good conversation to combat loneliness; understands that, although the aims of the scheme are to reduce loneliness and get people chatting, the word loneliness is not used on any of the publicity displayed in the cafe, and that it instead focuses on bringing people of all ages and from all walks of life together; further understands that the sisters who run the Glasgow restaurant decided to get involved in the Chatty Café scheme after they lost their mother and saw how the loneliness affected their father, and that they make sure that they have volunteers for anyone who needs to chat; acknowledges that Wee Betty's has partnered in the past with the Easterhouse Community Church to host a Boxing Day dinner, to help tackle loneliness within the community, and understands that the family-run business is always full of fun and laughter and also runs events on Saturday evenings to help customers to meet new friends and combat loneliness.
