UK Government Funding to Support Hundreds of Edinburgh Festival Fringe Acts

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the £1 million that the UK Government has agreed to award to a new Keep it Fringe fund; understands that the fund, which was launched in 2023 by Fleabag star, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, as president of the Fringe Society, is intended to nurture the next generation of British artists; further understands that the new funding will be targeted towards any UK-based acts or companies who do not currently have a high profile and may face barriers participating in the arts, and will help them to meet the costs involved in taking a show to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2024 and 2025; believes that this latest funding could level the playing field as it removes some of the financial challenges faced by many artists accessing the arts festival, and welcomes what it sees as this recognition of the cultural importance of the Fringe and the golden opportunity it provides for emerging talent.
