Threave Garden and Nature Reserve
The motion
That the Parliament recognises what it sees as the excellent work being carried out by the National Trust for Scotland at Threave Garden and Nature Reserve, which, it understands, is the only Scottish garden dedicated to the training of horticulturists of tomorrow, and the home of the school of heritage gardening since 1960; believes that Threave is the real flower of Scotland, a living flower and a hidden gem that deserves better recognition with its stunning gardens set amidst glorious views over the Galloway Hill and Ken/Dee valley, where visitors can often delight in watching ospreys, red kites and peregrine falcons in full flight; understands that former students are being encouraged to attend the Great Threave Students’ Reunion being staged from 28 to 30 June 2024, an event initiated by Brian Stuart after he met up with friends who attended this incredible Scottish horticultural school at Threave, following a gap of more than 50 years; wishes past students every success as they enjoy this nostalgic moment, and congratulates Gareth Clingan, operations manager, and the team at Threave, National Trust for Scotland, as they not only maintain but enhance the wonderful gardens and grounds that, it believes, are a paradise to all gardeners.
