10 Eastwood Schools Now Registered as Current Holders of the Gold School Sport Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates a range of schools in Eastwood on achieving the national Gold School Sport Award that is organised by sportscotland and funded by the National Lottery; recognises that the Gold School Sport Award commends the achievements of a school in ensuring that sport is placed at the very centre of its planning, practice and ethos; understands that receipt of the award is also evidence of a school's continual efforts to enhance pupils' opportunities and engagement in physical education, school sport, leadership and facilitate clear pathways for young people to take part in sport over the course of their lifetimes; acknowledges that five Eastwood schools received the Gold School Sport Award in the latest round of the initiative, namely Busby Primary, Eastwood High, St Ninian's High, Thornliebank Primary and Williamwood High; notes that the latest phase of the initiative means that a total of 10 Eastwood schools are now currently recognised as Gold sport schools, with Braidbar Primary, Crookfur Primary, Giffnock Primary, Netherlee Primary and Woodfarm High receiving the commendation in previous rounds; recognises that sportscotland's School Sport Award was temporarily halted in March 2020, and understands that, during the past few years, a range of improvements to the endeavour have been implemented, including the issuing of the prize all year round and no longer just at the conclusion of a school year, alongside a streamlined application process for the Gold Award; welcomes that a total of 10 Eastwood schools are now registered as current holders of the Gold School Sport Award, and congratulates all of them for what it sees as the commitment and dedication shown to providing opportunities for young people to participate in sporting activities.
