Celebrating Abercromby Primary in Tullibody Winning Prestigious Campaign for Learning Award

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates Abercromby Primary School, in Tullibody, Clackmannanshire, for its success in the family learning innovation category at the recent annual Family Learning Awards, which celebrate imaginative, innovative and inclusive family learning; understands that Abercromby Primary School won the award for its Paternal Play project, formerly "Dads and Lads", which aims to encourage more dads and other male carers to attend events in school with their children; notes that the project is run by Emma Craig, principal teacher, and Lindsay Patterson, family support worker, from The Link, a family room designed to support family learning at home, which began in 2018; believes that a diverse range of activities both in and out of the classroom were offered, including boxing, archery, a STEM challenge, coding, orienteering and pizza making, culminating in a final trip to Gartmorn Dam to make dens, build fires and pond dip; understands that, as a result of the project, more male carers, dads and family members are now attending school events and family sessions, as well as engaging with school staff; recognises that new skills have been learned, existing skills have been shared, and firm friendships were formed; acknowledges that skills gained will be shared, as the next sessions are planned to be co-created with attendees; commends everyone at the school for what it sees as their hard work and dedication to connecting with the wider community, and extends its very best wishes for continued success in the future.
