Oban Bach Choir and Orchestra Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Oban Bach Choir and Orchestra on reaching its 50th anniversary; understands that the group does fantastic work by bringing the community together to participate in and enjoy classical music; further understands that, to commemorate the occasion, the Oban Bach Choir and Orchestra will hold a special concert on 8 June 2024, where it will be performing the Saint Columba of Iona cantata, which was first staged on Iona in 1997 as one of several events marking the 1,400th anniversary of Columba’s death; notes that the cantata was set to music by the Bach Society’s founder, Norman Nicholson, who will also be the conductor at the concert, and that it had words written by Iain Crichton Smith; further notes that the part of Columba will be sung by renowned baritone, Andrew Shore, and wishes the Oban Bach Choir and Orchestra the best of luck for its performance and for the next 50 years.
