Congratulating All those Involved with the Publication of The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht

The motion

That the Parliament recognises co-editors, Lucy Hunter Blackburn and Susan Dalgety, and all the women who contributed to the book, The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht, which is described as chronicling the story of some of the women involved in the five-year campaign to protect women’s sex-based rights; notes that the book includes what it believes are powerful and inspiring essays from author JK Rowling, former and current parliamentarians, women’s group For Women Scotland, policy collective Murray Blackburn Mackenzie, academic Kathleen Stock, former prison governor Rhona Hotchkiss, and many others who, it understands, have been personally and professionally impacted by the decision to speak out against what they describe as the erosion of women’s rights and safety in Scotland and further afield; commends co-editors Lucy and Susan for providing women with a space to share their own personal stories and experiences and for amplifying their voices to a UK-wide and international audience; congratulates all those involved, including the book’s publisher, Constable, for making The Sunday Times Bestsellers list for two weeks in a row, following publication on 30 May 2024, and notes the book’s concluding comments that, while much has been achieved, the campaign to protect the rights and safety of women and girls goes on.
