Argyll Trio Achieve Recognition from the Orwell Foundation

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Benjamin McEwan of Lochgilphead Joint Campus, and Tabby Fletcher and Neil Macpherson, both of Islay High School, on their recognition by the Orwell Foundation as part of the 2024 Orwell Youth Prize; understands that the prize is awarded annually by the foundation to the students with the most outstanding pieces of writing; notes that 815 submissions were received, which were then shortlisted to 44 entrants; acknowledges that Benjamin won a prize for his short story, A Comforting Green, that Tabby poem, Caligula’s Great War, was a runner-up, and that Neil's journalistic piece, Tests of Time, was shortlisted; notes that the winners and runners-up are all invited to join the Orwell Youth Fellows Programme, which meets monthly to help shape the future of the Orwell Youth Prize, and wishes Benjamin, Tabby and Neil all the best with their future writing endeavours.
