Duncan Scott Becomes Most Decorated Scottish Olympian with Eight Olympic Medals, Including Seven Golds

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Olympic Team GB swimmer, Duncan Scott, on making history as he secured a seventh Olympic Gold medal to his name on 30 July 2024, and his eighth Olympic medal by winning Silver in the men’s 200 metres individual medley final on 2 August 2024, putting him ahead of Sir Chris Hoy; understands that Duncan, who grew up in Alloa, earned the seventh gold with the 4 x 200 metres freestyle relay team in Paris; considers that this achievement puts Duncan ahead of Sir Chris Hoy, as Scotland’s most decorated Olympic athlete; acknowledges that the relay team, which also included James Guy, Tom Dean and Matt Richards, also made history by becoming the first four swimmers to successfully defend an Olympic 4 x 200 metres relay title, having won in Tokyo 2020, and commends Duncan, who trains at the University of Stirling, as well as Team GB for what it sees as their excellent endeavours in this regard.
