India Marks its 78th Independence Day

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of India on 15 August 2024; congratulates people from India in Scotland, the rest of the UK and across the world on celebrating their independence day; understands that this year’s theme is “Viksit Bharat,” which emphasises India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047; commends the long-established relationship between Scotland and India; notes what it sees as the success of India in trade, infrastructure, poverty alleviation, education, healthcare and, most recently, space exploration, and recognises the positive contribution that the Indian diaspora has made to Scotland.
