Asda Launches Cashpot for Schools
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that Asda has launched an initiative, Cashpot for Schools, which will run until 30 November 2024 and aims to raise around £7.5 million to primary schools across Scotland, including in the Mid-Scotland and Fife region, and the rest of the UK; notes that this is being delivered in partnership with the charity, Parentkind, and that Asda customers will be able to raise money for schools in their area through using the Asda Rewards customer loyalty scheme, with 0.5% of the value of their shopping donated to their primary school of choice, which they will select using the Asda Rewards app; notes that Asda will provide each school with an initial £50 for their cashpot and that this will be topped up with an extra £1 for every customer that selects that school; believes that this initiative is a first for the retail loyalty market, allowing customers to raise funds simply by using their loyalty app; understands that Asda commissioned research, which suggested that 87% of families in the UK are asked to contribute to their primary school to support funding, with an average annual contribution of £138; notes that the research also reported that nine in 10 primary school teachers said that their schools were reliant on parents and parent teacher associations for funding; understands that Parentkind has also worked to help ensure that, when the campaign closes, the cashpots will be transferred smoothly to the schools; commends Asda and Parentkind on what it sees as this highly magnanimous project, and wishes everyone involved with it the very best of luck.
