Celebrates the Achievements of Fife Athletic Club Runner, Ben Sandilands, on Winning a Gold Medal in the Paralympics
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the achievements of Fife Athletic Club runner, Ben Sandilands, 21, from Kirkcaldy in Fife, on winning the Paralympics T20 1500 metres final in a world record time of 3:45.40 in Paris; notes that the runner, who trains at the Pitreavie Athletics Centre in Dunfermline, raced on 6 September 2024 in front of a large crowd at the Stade de France; understands that the Fife Athletic Club star burst clear in the final 200 metres to triumph from second-place and third-place runners from Portugal and America; notes that the winning time of Sandilands, who had won World Gold in Paris in 2023, shaved 0.1 seconds off the previous global best, since 2017; believes that this is Ben’s first Paralympic Gold and Britain’s fifth Para-athletics Gold medal; applauds that Ben has also set a new world record for the T20 1500 metres race, clocking in a time of 3 minutes, 45.40 seconds, and extends its very best wishes to the athlete for continued success in the future
