GoFibre Awards Aberdeenshire and Angus Charities Funding Boost on GoFurther Fund Anniversary

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the three charities in Aberdeenshire and Angus that have received funding from GoFibre’s GoFurther Fund, marking the first anniversary of this initiative by the Scottish independent broadband provider; acknowledges that The Haven in Aberdeenshire, Kirrie Connections in Angus, and North East Sensory Services (NESS) in Angus have each received £3,000 from the £50,000 fund; notes that the GoFurther Fund, launched in summer 2023, aims to support vital projects and groups in transforming local lives within the regions where GoFibre builds its network; understands that The Haven will use its grant to create a part-time administrative support position to enhance its free community activities aimed at tackling social isolation and mental health issues in Stonehaven; notes what it sees as the positive impact of Kirrie Connections in Angus, which provides support and creative activities for people living with dementia and their unpaid carers, with the funding being instrumental for the charity’s Pathfinders Project; acknowledges that NESS will enhance peer support and social groups for over 6,250 individuals with sight or hearing loss in the region by fostering social and cultural activities and promoting positive peer interactions, with the funds covering volunteer training and related expenses; notes that the GoFurther Fund is part of GoFibre’s ongoing commitment to tackle the digital divide across Scotland, and wishes continued success for these charities in what it sees as their essential work within their communities.
