The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Beatrix Elsberger, who is a consultant breast surgeon at NHS Grampian and, it believes, one of Scotland’s leading surgeons, on the news that she will receive the prestigious Hunter Doig Medal 2024 from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh at a ceremony in April 2025; notes that Beatrix is the ninth recipient of the medal, which was introduced in 2007, and is named after Alice Hunter and Caroline Doig, two surgeons who paved the way for women in surgery; recognises that it is awarded to a female surgeon who has shown career potential as well as high standards, along with good surgical practice and clinical excellence; understands that ongoing contributions to education and training, including clinically based research, audit and laboratory research of direct clinical relevance, also help to determine who is awarded the distinction, and acknowledges the distinguished work carried out by Beatrix and the team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, as they continue to inspire and make a huge contribution to breast cancer research and improve outcomes for people with the condition.
