Baby Loss Awareness Week 2024

The motion

That the Parliament recognises Baby Loss Awareness Week, which takes place from 9 to15 October 2024; understands that what originally began as National Baby LossAwareness Day in 2002, Baby Loss Awareness Week has taken place every Octoberin the UK since then; notes that like in previous years, the week ends with theWave of Light on 15 October, a moment for families and loved ones to lightcandles to remember their much-loved babies; understands that for some, this isa private moment of reflection, while others will share photos or videos oftheir candles on social media to connect with others taking part; recognisesthe work that Baby Loss Awareness Week does in offering support to grievingparents, while breaking what it sees as the stigma of talking about miscarriageand baby loss; notes that many buildings and landmarks across the UK will turntheir lights pink and blue to raise awareness of the week; acknowledges theexcellent work done by the Coatbridge-based charity, Baby Loss Retreat, whichwas founded in February 2018 by Julie and Bryan Morrison; praises the charityfor its hard working and continued efforts to support parents and families whohave been affected by miscarriage, stillbirth and neonatal death; commends thework done by so many to ensure easy access to the baby loss Memorial Book,which, it understands, was introduced in 2023 to ensure that those who haveexperienced a pregnancy or baby loss can remember their child, and extends itssincere condolences to all those who have been affected by miscarriage,stillbirth and neonatal death.
