Doune Rural Hall Centenary Weekend Celebrations
The motion
That the Parliament marks the centenary of the building of the Rural Hall at North Lea in Doune, which was originally built to accommodate meetings of the Doune and District branch of the Scottish Women’s Rural Institute, and has been in community ownership through the Kilmadock Development Trust since 2010; notes that the Rural Hall was built for the institute by way of a gift of a purpose-built facility from the then president, Mrs Henderson of Argaty, and was built on a vacant feu on North Lea that was donated by the Earl of Moray, with the hall opening in October 1924; understands that the Kilmadock Development Trust has organised a weekend of celebrations from 18 to 20 October 2024, including the Kilmadock Society Village Quiz, an afternoon tea with music from the Rusty Strings, a ceilidh with music from Skelpit Lug Ceilidh Band and a concert called Tales from an Old Bassoon, and wishes the Kilmadock Development Trust well with its celebrations and future plans for the Rural Hall.
