The Killie Community Walks and Talks to Prevent Social Isolation

The motion

That the Parliament commends The Killie Community on the success of its Walk and Talk programme; understands that the programme was developed to help reduce loneliness and social isolation using the power of football to amplify that message within Kilmarnock and the surrounding areas; notes that walks begin at the Moffat Stand at Rugby Park and last between one and two hours for participants to talk and network before ending at the Killie Community Hub; understands that the programme has engaged with over 115 walkers since its inception just over one year ago to help people of all ages and backgrounds to overcome a variety of barriers to social connections, including mental health and mobility challenges, to create a sense of belonging within the community; recognises The Killie Community’s creativity in attracting new participants, including a Halloween themed historical walking tour, which highlighted the town's ghostly past, led by Ray Montgomerie, Kilmarnock FC’s Scottish Cup winning captain, and John Livingston, the club’s historian; commends The Killie Community, including its staff, volunteers, and participants for the work that they do to create a strong sense of community within Kilmarnock, and wishes The Killie Community all the best for its future endeavours.
