Carers Rights Day 2024
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that Carers Rights Day 2024 takes place on 21 November 2024; understands that Carers Rights Day is about raising the awareness of caring and the rights that unpaid carers have, but also of the impact of caring upon all aspects of their lives; further understands that unpaid carers continue to face significant poverty, with research by Carers Scotland finding that over a quarter (28%) of unpaid carers are living in poverty; believes that more support is needed to improve carers’ health and wellbeing, with 28% reportedly living with poor mental health and over half (54%) experiencing impacts on their physical health; notes what it sees as the critical role of providing breaks from caring in supporting carers' health and wellbeing, including the importance of delivering a right to a break from caring for all unpaid carers, and recognises what it considers to be the vital and unparalleled contribution that unpaid carers make to those they support, their wider communities and to the delivery of health and social care in Scotland.
