Tribute to Professor Heather Cubie, Outgoing Chair of the Scotland-Malawi Partnership

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates what it sees as the many years of tireless and invaluable work undertaken by Professor Heather Cubie, as she steps down from her role as the chair of the Scotland-Malawi Partnership (SMP); acknowledges what it believes is her long-standing commitment to extending the special relationship between Scotland and the "Warm Heart of Africa" as an SMP trustee for nine years and chair for five years; understands that Professor Cubie established a pioneering early intervention cervical screening programme in Malawi, which began in 2013, with Scottish Government funding; pays tribute to what it understands to be the profound and indeed lifesaving impact that Professor Cubie and her colleagues have had on the lives of women in these communities, and expresses its deeply held gratitude for Professor Cubie’s past and ongoing dedication to the partnership, and what it sees as the incredible work that she has done to strengthen the relationship between these two nations.
