Celebrating Aberdeen Royal Infirmary's Award for Outstanding Myeloma Care
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on receiving the Myeloma UK Clinical Service Excellence Programme (CSEP) Award in recognition of its outstanding care and dedication to patients with myeloma; understands that myeloma is an incurable blood cancer affecting around 24,000 people across the UK, with approximately 2,000 living with the condition in Scotland; commends the hospital team, including the consultant haematologist, Dr Stephanie Stone, and the clinical nurse specialists, Fiona Butler and Laura Simpson, for their tireless efforts to improve the quality of life for myeloma patients and listen to their needs; acknowledges the hospital's close working relationships with other specialities to ensure coordinated care for patients with complications arising from their myeloma or AL amyloidosis; celebrates the positive impact that the hospital's care has had on patients such as Bob Johnstone and Marlene Arthur, who have praised the "wonderful" staff and the "second to none" treatment that they have received; recognises the challenges in diagnosing myeloma due to its often vague symptoms, and the importance of raising awareness and improving access to timely treatment, and wishes Aberdeen Royal Infirmary continued success in providing exceptional, patient-focused care for those affected by this incurable blood cancer.
