150th Anniversary of the Birth of Sir Winston Churchill

The motion

That the Parliament marks the 150th anniversary of Winston Churchill’s birth on 30 November 1874, which also falls on St Andrew’s Day; notes what it sees as his strong ties to Scotland, including his wife Clementine’s family roots in Angus, serving as Dundee’s MP for nearly 15 years, and commanding the 6th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers in the First World War; highlights his friendships with Scots like Andrew Dewar Gibb, a founder and leader of the Scottish National Party, and Archie Sinclair; rejects the claim that Churchill ordered tanks into George Square in 1919; commends what it sees as his leadership in securing Scotland's freedom, alongside the rest of the UK, and expresses gratitude for his service to Scotland and the UK.
