South of Scotland Cycling Partnership Nominated for Top Global Award

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates South of Scotland Cycling Partnership on its efforts to become one of the world’s leading cycling destinations, having been nominated for a global award in the inaugural UCI Cycling for All and Sustainability Awards in the UCI Bike City Category; recognises that its submission, entitled Unlocking the Power of the Bike, follows on from the south of Scotland becoming the first region in Scotland to achieve the UCI Bike Region Label in 2023 after recognising its commitment to both elite cycling competition and cycling for all; notes that the south of Scotland will be competing against Copenhagen in Denmark and Wollongong in Australia for the award, which will be announced by the UCI during the 2024 UCI Mobility and Bike City Forum being held in Abu Dhabi on 18-19 December 2024; acknowledges other achievements by the Partnership, including the launch of the 10-year strategy that aims to make the region one of the top cycling destinations in the world, gaining the UCI Bike Region Label, hosting three events at the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships that attracted over 65 million broadcast viewers from across the globe, while also officially launching the Kirkpatrick C2C, the south of Scotland’s coast-to-coast cycle route, which offers 250 miles of uninterrupted joy for experienced cyclists from Stranraer to Eyemouth, and wishes the Partnership continued success in the coming months.
