Active Stirling’s Walking Network Programme

The motion

That the Parliament understands that, in partnership with Paths For All, Active Stirling took another step towards strengthening community connections and promoting inclusivity through its Walking Network Programme, which was held at Forthbank, Stirling Sports Village; understands that one of Active Stirling’s aims in growing its walk leader numbers is to inspire individuals, who may not believe they are capable, to fully lead walks and to take on some of the tasks in a supervised and supported manner, and become buddy walk leaders; notes that the course aimed to empower participants to lead and support community walks across Stirling and that, amongst the attendees, were two long-time walkers who have now stepped into new roles as buddy walk leaders, and whose training allows them to assist other walk leaders while continuing to take part in walks that they enjoy; believes that this innovative approach is said to emphasise Active Stirling’s commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all participants, whatever their abilities and skills may be; considers that both walking and wheeling can be highly inclusive activities, which provide excellent physical and mental benefits while, equally importantly, being a wonderful way to socialise and meet people, and commends Active Stirling, Paths for All and all their volunteers and participants on their excellent community work.
