Stirling Councillor Rachel Nunn Named as One of Cycling UK’s Top 100 Women in Cycling

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Stirling councillor, Rachel Nunn, who has been named as one of Cycling UK’s top 100 Women in Cycling; understands that, every year, Cycling UK highlights 100 exceptional women who promote cycling and encourage others to take part; believes that Councillor Nunn, as founder of Cycle Stirling, has been honoured in the Cycle Influencer category for “making every day cycling the norm”; understands that Councillor Nunn’s connections with cycling began as a student, commuting 10 miles daily to university, which ultimately evolved into a lifelong commitment to sustainable travel; further understands that the councillor and her family evolved bikes into what they collectively saw as “the second car” and a practical and eco-friendly way to navigate life, her dedication to which extended to the founding of Cycle Stirling, which is a community initiative empowering residents to embrace cycling as a norm; notes that, from spearheading her local primary school’s Travel Plan, securing 20 mph limits and Bikeability training, to achieving Stirling’s first Cycling Scotland Cycle Friendly Primary School, her leadership has been recognised by Cycling UK as "continuing to inspire transformative change", and commends Councillor Nunn on what it sees as her inspirational work on the promotion of cycling at all levels, her achievements towards which were also congratulated by councillors across the chamber at a recent full meeting of Stirling Council.
