University of Glasgow Turns 574 Years Old

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the University of Glasgow on its 574th anniversary, marking its founding on 7 January 1451; recognises the historic role played by Pope Nicholas V in granting the Papal Bull, which allowed Bishop William Turnbull to establish the university; commends the university for what it considers its centuries of academic excellence, innovation and contribution to Scotland and the wider world; acknowledges what it sees as the university’s role in fostering world-leading research, educating generations of students and enriching cultural and intellectual life, and wishes the university continued success in its mission to advance learning and knowledge for many years to come.
