Paying Tribute to Long-serving Aberdeenshire Councillor, Carl Nelson MBE

The motion

That the Parliament pays tribute to the long-serving Aberdeenshire councillor, Carl Nelson MBE, who sadly passed away aged 88 on 29 December 2024; understands that Carl was elected in 1992 to Kincardine and Deeside District Council, before becoming a councillor for North Kincardine in 1994 on the newly formed Aberdeenshire Council; notes that Carl went on to represent the area for more than two decades, carrying out numerous council duties and undertaking various senior posts, including chair of the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee and the board of Grampian Fire and Rescue, before his retirement in 2017; recognises that, before being elected as a councillor, Carl worked in the civil service and, in recognition of his longstanding commitment to community service, he was appointed an MBE from the late Queen Elizabeth II; acknowledges the outstanding contribution that Carl made to his local community, which has been reflected by the many warm tributes that have been shared by those who knew him, and passes on its sincere condolences to Carl’s wife, Rhoda, and his family, former colleagues and friends, on his sad passing.
