William Whyte of Alloa Honoured for Decades of Public Service

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that a man from Alloa, William Whyte, is to be honoured at the Palace of Westminster on 23 January 2025 with a British Citizen Award (BCA), the Medal of Honour, for his volunteering and work in the charity sector; notes that William is a retired justice of the peace and served the area for 49 years in this voluntary role; understands that he was appointed a bailie in Alloa Borough Court when he was just 24 and, at the time, he was the youngest person in Scotland to hold that title; believes that he also holds the record for the longest time served in the Judicial Office in Scotland; notes that William also chaired the Alloa Town Council Housing Committee and the area's Youth Employment Committee, as well as serving as the school governor and a board member at Alloa Academy, all in a volunteer capacity; congratulates William on his award, and commends him for what it sees as his sterling voluntary endeavours and tireless commitment to public service.
