Recognition of Dell McClurg's Contribution to the Merkinch Community

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the remarkable contributions of Dell McClurg, a long-standing community activist from Merkinch, Inverness, who has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in The King's New Year Honours List 2025 for her exceptional services to wildlife and the community; acknowledges her dedication to improving the lives of local residents, including her work with vulnerable children, the preservation of the Merkinch Local Nature Reserve, and her tireless advocacy on behalf of her community; believes that Dell’s work as a member of the Merkinch Community Council, including 13 years as chairperson, has positively impacted the area for over 45 years, and has contributed to enhancing the local environment and building a strong sense of community; understands that Dell accepted this prestigious award, not for herself, but as a symbol of appreciation for all those who volunteer and support the Merkinch and South Kessock areas; condemns the negative stereotypes that it understands are sometimes associated with Merkinch and South Kessock, and highlights Dell’s proud defence of her community and the numerous achievements made by local residents; celebrates Dell’s ongoing commitment to Merkinch as a place where community spirit thrives, and encourages continued support for volunteers and initiatives that strengthen Scotland’s diverse communities.
