First Surgery in UK and Ireland Conducted at Glasgow Royal Infirmary
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that Glasgow Royal Infirmary consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mark Blyth, has made history by becoming the first surgeon in the UK and Ireland to use the persona revision knee system; understands that the new instrumentation and implant can more accurately reproduce the anatomy of a patient's knee from before surgery, leading to improved outcomes for the patient; further understands that the new system has been used in Europe only a handful of times, and that the team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary became the first in the UK and Ireland to use it after several months of training and familiarisation with the instrumentation and implants; congratulates Mark Blyth and all the orthopaedic team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, including the nursing and theatre staff, for their skill and dedication and for leading the way with the use of new innovation, and understands that the system will soon be rolled-out to more hospitals across the United Kingdom.
