Ross-shire Roadies' Fundraising Efforts in Support of Motor Neurone Disease Research
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Ross-shire Roadies, a group of dedicated cyclists from Ross-shire, for their remarkable achievement in raising £14,000 for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation through their participation in Doddie's Grand Tour; acknowledges the gruelling 800-mile challenge that the cyclists undertook to support research into motor neurone disease (MND), inspired by the late Scottish rugby legend, Doddie Weir; recognises the leadership of former Beauly GP, Robbie Forsyth, in organising the team, and the participation of members, including Catriona Forsyth, Adam Syme, Robert Cartwright, Colin Gilmour, Simon Russell, and Fergus David; notes the poignant contribution of Adam Syme, cycling in memory of his wife Karen, who succumbed to MND in October 2024; commends former Scottish rugby player, Rob Wainwright, for his overall fundraising leadership, and acknowledges the cumulative efforts of all participants in the Grand Tour series, which have collectively raised over £532,000 to date; appreciates the profound impact that it believes such community-driven initiatives have in advancing research towards a cure for MND, and encourages continued support for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation's mission to create a world that is free of this devastating disease.
